MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 22-year-old Mossel Bay man faces charges of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and rape, after he allegedly grabbed a 17-year-old girl around the neck and pulled her into a darkened shack on Sunday evening, 6 September.
According to the police, the girl was walking along Terrence Ndanda Street, Fairview that evening when she noticed someone was following her.
According to reports made to the police, she felt a hand wrap around her neck and was pulled off the street into the shack where a man raped her.
After the assault, she exited the structure, followed by the accused who allegedly told her the two of them were going to a tavern.
It is further alleged that when she refused, the alleged rapist began hitting her, using two beer bottles to hit her on the head.
It is unclear at this stage how the girl managed to get away and who called the police, however, he was arrested that same evening and made his first appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday 8 September.
The case has been postponed to 15 September for a full bail profile. He is being remanded in custody.
The Mossel Bay Family Violence, Child Protection and Family Violence Unit is investigating the matter.
