Milestone awards for Sports Council

MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The year 2023 is a particularly special one for the Mossel Bay Sports Council as it celebrates a decade of promoting sport in the greater Mossel Bay area.

This year, the sports council also celebrates another milestone - the 10th year of hosting the Mossel Bay Sports Awards.

These take place on 26 May. The event, open to invited guests only, is at the Garden Route Casino Bravo Lounge.

At the sports council meeting with the Mossel Bay Municipality this week, chairperson Teresa Nortje-Singh said the the nomination process is well under way. Nominations close on Friday, 19 May, and are being submitted by affiliated sport clubs and organisations, as well as schools within the greater Mossel Bay area.

"We invite individual sportsmen and -women with noteworthy achievements to submit their nominations through one of our affiliated clubs, to receive recognition," said Nortje-Singh.

She said the council now has 48 affiliated sport clubs under its banner and it is still growing. She made special mention of the efforts of Councillor Donovan Claassen, former member of the council, who took great pains to reach out to the rural communities in getting sportsmen and -women affiliated to the sports council.

"The sports council was established to bring unity to the sport fraternity in the greater Mossel Bay area and to provide a single operational system."

Mossel Bay Municipality became a custodian of the Mossel Bay Sports Council several years ago and supports its projects.

Nortjé-Singh said award winners from last year were particularly successful in their endeavours, scooping awards at the Eden Sport Awards, as well as the Western Cape Sport Awards.
