MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Following the devastating fire at Mossel Bay's Mikeva Hyper in May, the building will receive an upgrade in the form of a new retail centre known as Mikeva Link.
This was confirmed by Stratos Kritzas, one of the landlords of Mikeva Hyper, who said a development is definitely in the works, but that it is still in the planning stage.
Kritzas told Mossel Bay Advertiser other stores will be added on the property alongside Mikeva Hyper and its accompanying liquor store, including a Shoprite and a Hungry Lion fast food restaurant, among others.
Mikeva Link's location will remain where Mikeva Hyper previously stood on Louis Fourie Road in Mossel Bay, near the Heiderand Mall.
The retail centre is expected to reopen its doors in April 2027.
The Advertiser previously reported that 40% of the Mikeva Hyper building was saved despite the massive fire, according to a report shared by Chief Fire Officer Joseph Johnston at the time.
An arson docket was opened at the Da Gamaskop Police Station in Mossel Bay following the blaze.
The Southern Cape Police's spokesperson, Sergeant Chris Spies, previously told the Advertiser that no foul play was suspected.
