MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay executive mayor Alderman Harry Levendal is calling on the kindness of residents to assist Shaheeda Botha, whose 19-year-old daughter, Bernalee, suffers from bone marrow cancer and is in desperate need of help.
They live in Friemersheim, one of the rural areas in the Greater Mossel Bay area.
Bernalee has, since the initial diagnosis, been diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas, gut and the kidney.
Although previously in remission, cancer has returned to parts of her body.
"We are not sure whether she will be able to celebrate her 21st birthday. Bernalee can barely walk nor attend school. She needs help with regards to her health needs, since she has to eat only certain types of foods (such as milk, vegetables, green beans, meat, soup, pasta, wholewheat bread, dried fruit, chicken and fish)," her mother said.
Bernalee regularly visits the Provincial Hospital in Mossel Bay for ongoing treatment.
Since September the Garden Route Casino has made a monthly contribution in the form of a food voucher to Bernalee for which Mayor Levendal thanks them.
