MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 52-year-old man with over 30 previous convictions for housebreaking and theft, was recently sentenced to six years’ imprisonment in the Mossel Bay Regional Court.
The sentencing came after an investigation by Mossel Bay Police detective Sergeant Thurston Amsterdam who arrested the man, John Hansen, the day he broke into Hennie's Mossel Bay on 6 April this year.
Hansen broke into the restaurant just before it opened, fleeing the scene with a cellphone, a portable phone, a pair of shoes, a breathalyser and an undisclosed amount of cash.
Amsterdam was able to link Hansen to the case the same day and arrested him while he was walking along Da Gama Street. Hansen was then found guilty for housebreaking and theft of a business premises and sentenced to six years’ imprisonment on 18 September.
