MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Heart-to-Heart care centre is passionate about loving people through seeking justice in local communities.
Its current projects include pregnancy care (going the distance with women facing unplanned pregnancies); after school clubs at three local primary schools working towards educational enhancement; and empowering students to become the best version of themselves.
Celebrating its 21st birthday this year, the care centre is launching its literacy chapter on Mandela Day. South Africa’s literacy rates are shockingly low.
The national statistic is that 78% of Grade 4 children cannot read for meaning (PIRLS, 2016).
A group of volunteers is supporting an initiative of Heart-to-Heart in giving support to children in grades 2 and 3 to help strengthen their reading, writing and speaking skills. Volunteers support the same children each week and work with one or two children at a time, during school time.
"No previous experience is needed. We will give you training, materials and ongoing support. All you need is a love of children and one spare hour a week."
