MOSSEL BAY - The King Penguin which arrived on Second Beach in Dana Bay on 24 January and which was being cared for at the Seabird and Penguin Rehabilitation Centre (SAPREC) in Mossdustria, outside Mossel Bay, died this week.
SAPREC posted on its Facebook page: "We have the most heartbreaking news. Our king penguin became very lethargic and suddenly died. We are waiting for all of the test results to find the cause.
"We did everything in our power to make her comfortable while she was completing her moult. We are devastated."
King penguins live on the sub-Antarctic islands and it is rare to find them in Mossel Bay.
