MOSSEL BAY NEWS - It's International Coastal Clean-Up Day tomorrow, 19 September, and local conservation organisations are calling on the community to join them in clearing the beaches of litter that is severely detrimental to marine life and wildlife.
Various organisations are to host these clean-ups along the coast, from Suiderkruis in Great Brak River all the way to Fransmanshoek in Vleesbaai.
These clean-ups not only help combat pollution, but also provide an important snapshot of the rubbish found along the coast across the country and the world.
The participants will be given pencils and data sheets to log all the kinds of litter they find.
Great Brak River Conservancy will host a clean-up at Suiderkruis Beach, running from 09:00 to 12:00. Midbrak Conservancy will be cleaning along Reebok Beach off Kusweg and will meet at the parking space off Hooper Street at 09:00. That clean-up ends at 11:00.
The Stranded Marine Animal Rescue Team (Smart) will be hosting a clean-up at The Point from 09:00, and Dana Bay Conservancy will be at Second Beach from 10:00 to 12:00.
Fransmanshoek Conservancy and Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve will host theirs at Fransmanshoek.
Families and friends are urged to make a day of the clean-up, to come together and do some good for the coastline by cleaning it up a little.
