MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Loved ones and carers of Alzheimer's disease patients are invited to join a support group.
It was started by Rina Fourie, who is the Hartenbos-bejaardesorgdiens centre co-ordinator. The support group is being run in conjunction with Alzheimer's SA.
The group meets once a month and the next meeting is planned for 17 June at 10:00 at the Hartenbos-versorgingsoord, in the conference room.
There is no fee to join. The following subjects will be discussed at the meetings of the group over the next few months:
- 17 June: Three things never to do, five tips for talking to your loved one
- 15 July: Dementia and power of attorney
- 19 August: Open discussion
- 16 September: Resentment/aggression of patient
- 21 October: Open discussion
- 18 November: Different types of Dementia
Feedback received by members of the group is that they receive useful information which helps them understand what is happening with the Alzheimer's sufferer.
Loved ones and carers feel they are not alone in their situation and they feel it is a safe environmemt to ask questions and discuss their challenges.
