At the Thusong Service Centre Excellence Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, 17 September Jika, the manager of the Mossel Bay Thusong Centre, won the accolade, best Thusong Centre manager in South Africa.
The Thusong Centre Mossel Bay received two first runner-up awards, one for outstanding partnerships and the other for outstanding urban hub.
Mossel Bay executive deputy mayor, Alderman Dirk Kotzé accompanied Jika to the awards ceremony in Cape Town.
He said it was truly a privilege for Mossel Bay and Jika to receive the awards at the National Thusong Service Centre 20-year celebrations. "I am particularly proud of Mossel Bay's Thusong Centre manager, Nomzi Jika," he added.
"The hum-ble passion with which she serves the community is evident in the precision and thoroughness with which she manages.
"She does not hesitate to go the extra mile and one of the qualities that makes her an outstanding leader is the way she helps other centre heads with ideas and advice.
"As a result, some of them also received awards for the first time. Her thoroughness makes my job as portfolio chair easy and I am proud of her.
"The Western Cape also received the award for the province with the best-run centres and we are pleased that Mossel Bay was able to contribute with all our awards to the province's success.
"Nomzi already intends to look further at how she can continue to improve by further providing advice and ideas to other centres. She is also interested in making the Mossel Bay Thusong centre play a greater role in local economic growth."
