MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Municipality, along with strategic partners, actively works towards creating a safer environment, it said in a statement this week.
The current focus is a strategy to improve safety on the coastline of the greater Mossel Bay area.
One of the initiatives is the use of four-wheel-drive motorcycles that will increasingly be deployed for beach patrols. Visible law enforcement is a recognised deterrent for criminal activities and also helps address the vandalism of municipal infrastructure, such as beach access facilities.
Recently, the head of law enforcement and traffic services, Henry Williamson, led the patrol between the Little Brak River and Great Brak River on a municipal quad bike.
Mossel Bay Municipality is responsible for more than 100km of coastline. Many of the beaches are pristine and therefore, popular.
"Beach patrols are yet another facet of the larger safety plan to ensure that community safety is enhanced. In addition, a municipal dog unit is also envisioned to assist in crime prevention," said the portfolio chairman for community safety, councillor Leon van Dyk.
