Officers Bonga Jama and Eucine Koester discovered 10 253 units of illegal abalone in blue plastic bags valued at an approximate R4.25 million.
The abalone was confiscated and a man (48) from Atlantis was arrested. The man claims he was en route to Gauteng to make the delivery.
The abalone was handed to local representatives of the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) for safekeeping.
The case is being investigated by officials of the Organised Crime unit in George. The accused will appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court later today.
