MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Distance Riding Club of South Africa (DRASA) is holding an event at Outeniquabosch Wildlife Estate, just outside Hartenbos, next to Monte Christo, on Sunday, 31 July.
There are 10km, 20km and 30km rides, with a water point every five kilometres. Entrants are judged on their skills, times and horsemanship.
There will be a veterinary check before, during and after the rides. "The event is all about the horses and their wellbeing. This is a fun, family event and all age groups may enter," Inelia van der Merwe, a spokesperson for the event said.
The horsemanship judging will start on Saturday afternoon, 30 July, at Hartenhoef stables, three kilometres from Hartenbos. That is also where entrants will be camping for the weekend.
This is the first time this event will be held in Mossel Bay and the plan is to make it an annual occasion. Previous events were held in George and Plettenberg Bay. The club has different provinces, and this event is being run by the Garden Route branch of the club.
Van der Merwe said: "What makes this ride exiting is that it is the last chance to qualify for the national championships."
