MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - The Haven Night Shelter in Mossel Bay, besides offering accommodation to the homeless, also provides meals for people who live on the street.
The shelter is currently full, with no space available.
It was giving the homeless on the street a meal a day, but had to reduce this to a meal three times a week, because of a lack of food.
The shelter is grateful to the Mossel Bay Municipality which supplies it with ingredients to make this meal of soup for those on the street.
If businesses and members of the public donated enough food, the shelter would be able to provide a meal per day again for those living rough, even if it is simply a peanut butter sandwich and a piece of fruit.
It was one of the people living on the street, who is reliant on the food provided by The Haven, who appealed to the Mossel Bay Advertiser to write an article, asking for donations, so that a meal could be provided each day again.
Piet Maree, manager of The Haven, said bread, different types of bread spreads and polony would be useful. People are also welcome to donate fruit, mielie meal, other porridges and other foods. Maree said: "The homeless need blankets too. Thank you to everybody who has helped us with donations."
Call Maree (064 433 1388 or 044 691 0189) if you are able to assist.
