Heat wave conditions over Karoo and Garden Route today, Wednesday 12 February

GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - In the latest weather update from the South African Weather Service, very hot weather conditions are expected over the interior of Namakwa district and interior of the Western Cape on Wednesday, including the West Coast, Cape Winelands districts and Kannaland Municipality on Wednesday and Thursday.

Conditions are such that the FDI index is above 75. Under these conditions fires may develop and spread rapidly resulting in damage to property and possible loss of human and/or animal life.

Impact based warnings

A. Yellow level 1 Warning: Damaging winds leading to localised damage to settlements and difficult driving conditions for high-sided vehicles on prone routes are expected over the central and southern parts of the Northern Cape and the Central Karoo of the Western Cape.

Fire danger warnings

Extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over the interior of the Northern Cape, except the north-east, the interior of the Western Cape and the western interior of the Eastern Cape.

Advisories

1. Hot to very hot and uncomfortable conditions are expected over the central and western interior of the Northern Cape, the interior of the Western Cape and the western parts of the Eastern Cape.

2. Extremely hot temperatures are expected over the Central and Little Karoo of the Western Cape and in places over the south-western interior of the Eastern Cape.
