MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Most parents do not have to face the trials and tribulations of caring for a child suffering from a life threatening disease, but for those who do, this is a huge challenge.
This is why Kid's Kingdom crèche and pre-school has arranged a fun day at the Diaz Waterpark today, 12 April from 16:00 to 19:00 to support children in need.
"We have two very sick children, one aged two and the other aged four, in our school, suffering from cancer.
"Both are in remission currently, but we realise there will be challenges in the next five years," says Georgia Argyropoulos, owner and principal of Kid's Kingdom.
"We have promoted this event among our parents, but would really appreciate even wider support."
Today, as opposed to R180 for three hours of fun, the Diaz Waterpark has reduced the entry fee to R150. Braai packs will be on sale for R85. This includes three salads, three pieces of meat and bread rolls. Not only will the two children dealing with cancer benefit from the funds raised, but also those on the school's bursary programme.
"Our bursary programme is focused on children that are super smart, but have disadvantages that will hamper their development. "Our PTA, therefore, decided to split the money three ways." Argyropoulus said the pre-school already does fundraising in support of the bursary programme through its annual school concert, but it desperately needs to supplement this income.
"We feel very strongly about support to our learners and we have been doing this for some time. We just didn't involve the entire community as we are with the fun day."
