MOSSEL BAY NEWS - At about 14:30 today, the Eden District Municipality (Eden DM) Fire and Rescue services received a request from the Mossel Bay Fire Chief to assist with a fire threatening houses in Friemersheim.
The majority of the Eden DM team members are dispatched to the fire in Still Bay and due to this arrangement, volunteers were tasked to assist in Mossel Bay.
The Mossel Bay Fire Chief further requested urgent aerial assistance. The closest chopper that could be requested to assist was the one from Savannah Helicopters. The WOF chopper, at Gouna, was requested as a back-up.
Currently, the western flank that was threatening houses has been contained, the northern flank is burning with a back burn towards the close-by Pine Grove plantation and the Eastern flank is moving towards Botlierskop.
Current deployment to this fire is 19 people.
Still Bay
Teams attended to 50 hot-spots today, most of these were dealt with and extinguished. 11 WoF staff and 2 Eden DM Riversdale base staff will continue with mopping-up tomorrow.
The Eden DM night shift team will relieve teams at Friemersheim tonight at 19:00.
