MOSSEL BAY NEWS - An off-duty police officer (30) was attacked with an axe in Mossel Bay at about 01:45 yesterday, Sunday 25 May, when he and his partner were walking in Dalindyebo Street, KwaNonqaba.
Four suspects, aged 16 to 19, have been arrested and are set to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court today, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies.
He says a preliminary investigation suggests that the suspects, allegedly armed with an axe and other sharp weapons, assaulted the officer.
The attackers allegedly fled the scene, leaving the constable with life-threatening injuries to his head and neck.
He was transported to a Mossel Bay hospital, where he is in a critical condition.
Spies says the suspects were arrested later yesterday, Sunday 25 May.
The motive for the attack remains unclear and forms part of an ongoing investigation, Spies says.
