Fortuin to serve as speaker

MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - Newly elected speaker, Alderlady Venolea Fortuin has taken her seat and has started with the agenda at the first meeting of the newly elected municipal council of Mossel Bay.

Following the announcement, Fortuin received a standing ovation from fellow councillors.

Fortuin first, before taking her seat, shook hands with former speakers, Alderman Petru Terblanche (Mossel Bay Municipality) and Barnie Groenewald (Garden Route District Municipality).

She was also duly congratulated by former mayor, Alderlady Marie Ferreira, in whose council she served her first term as youthful councillor. Fortuin is now serving her third term in the local council.

Fortuin is the first female speaker of the Mossel Bay Municipal Council.

“For me it is a humble, humble honour to be in this seat,” Fortuin said, before proceeding with the agenda. The voting process for selecting the executive mayor is now underway.
