MOSSEL BAY NEWS -Mossel Bay Municipality wrote that it mourned the loss of Charlton Louw (25), who had been a member of Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services for the past eight years.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies said the accident took place at 19:25 near the Maalgate River bridge, near George.
Spies said that apparently, Charlton was travelling in the direction of Mossel Bay and that no other vehicle was involved in the accident. He said Charlton suffered multiple injuries and was declared dead on the scene by paramedics.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and colleagues,” said municipal manager Colin Puren.
Charlton frequented the fire station on weekends while he was still at school and showed a keen interest in becoming a firefighter.
After completing his school career he volunteered and was later appointed as a firefighter, serving the communities of Mossel Bay Municipality with pride, the municipality noted.
"Charlton was a dedicated professional firefighter who never stood back when duty called."
