GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM) Control Room received an emergency call at 13:05 yesterday, 9 July, from Mossel Bay Fire Services, notifying of a veld fire at Mooihoek (north of Robinsons Pass).
According to the person who reported the fire, the fireline was approximately 2km in length and burned in the direction of the farm houses with a strong wind fueling the fire.
The GRDM crew responded with a skid unit and tanker to the area and arrived at approximately 14:00. The team immediately started with firefighting operations on the head of the fire and managed to stop further spread. Two structures were in direct danger.
Both Oudtshoorn and Mossel Bay Municipality Fire Services also responded to the fire - Oudtshoorn with 1 Skid Unit and Water Tanker and Mossel Bay with 1 Bakkie Unit. Fortunately the house was saved.
At 14:30 the fire was under control and the crews started with mopping up operations.
At about 23:30, crews concluded mop-up operations and the Incident Commander, after patrolling the entire burned area, was satisfied with the wildfire that was completely extinguished.
