MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Clover Mama Afrika, the social responsibility programme of the Clover dairy company, hosted its national awards event in Mossel Bay for women making entrepreneurial strides through this social responsibility programme.
The women were dressed in beautiful, glittery evening gowns at the gala function at the Diaz Hotel on Thursday, 29 May.
The attendees travelled from far and wide to attend the event, including from Khayelitsha (Cape Town), Soweto (Johannesburg) and Mbekweni (Paarl).
The theme for the evening was "Deeply rooted in strength, united in sisterhood", with the visual symbol of a tree used to represent the theme.
What made the evening even more memorable was that the women either made their dresses themselves or had them specially created for the event, and they were responsible for the beautiful flower arrangements in the venue.
Clover Mama Afrika is a social responsibility programme that focuses on providing women in low-income communities with resources and training to provide not only for themselves and generate an income, but also to provide for the communities in which they reside.
The evening formed a platform to honour each "mama" and her dedication to her work, as well as celebrating 24 years of the Clover Mama Afrika programme.

Elain Vlok, manager of the Clover Mama Afrika Trust, rewarded the women with trophies and certificates, honouring them for their time spent in the programme, ranging from just a few months to more than 20 years.
Types of training offered by the Clover Mama Afrika social responsibility programme include hairstyling, sewing, art, baking and even welding.
From the programme, women have been empowered to operate their own child care businesses, hair salons, catering businesses and centres for teaching and assisting people with disabilities, among others.
