MOSSEL BAY NEWS - There were 11 rescues in the surf by 14:30 at Dias Beach today, a concerned woman told the Mossel Bay Advertiser.
A reliable witness, former lifeguard Danette Douglas, whose sons surf, said: "There are no lifeguards. People have no idea where to swim. Emergency services were called and they're here now (14:30 today).
"Again, two boys nearly died. We're a group of moms and we are concerned."
She said the surfers at the beach had moved those swimming out of the rip currents.
In January five boys got into trouble on one day during the school holidays, Douglas said. She is often at the beach with her children, she says.
She posted on the Mosselbaai op sy beste Facebook site that it was an enormous problem that funds were not made available for lifeguards during school holidays besides Decembers.
She posted that there was also a large group of school children without supervision at the beach today.
The Advertiser has requested comment from the municipality.
