MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Western Cape Blood Service (WCBS), together with the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), will host its first, 1 Day – 1 Nation - 5000 Units of Blood campaign tomorrow, Saturday, 13 April.
People from Mossel Bay and surrounds can donate blood for this cause at the Langeberg Mall from 09:00 until 16:00.
The aim is to collect 5 000 units of blood nationwide. Marike Carli, public relations manager for the WCBS said: "We hope all South Africans eligible to donate blood will support us." Both WCBS and SANBS anticipate blood stock shortages, leading up to the winter months.
"Ramadan started on 11 March, which adds additional pressure to the blood stock levels as Muslim donors can’t donate during the fast," Carli said.
"Right now, we need all the help we can get – from current and potential donors. We ask South Africans to become regular donors. By donating blood regularly, we can easily maintain safe stock levels throughout the year,” says Thandi Mosupye, an SANBS spokesperson.
