MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Eleven students who did a home-based care course in Mossel Bay all passed their external exam and now have certificates in home-based care.
They did their courses through BSD Consulting, which is a non-profit organisation. BSD stands for behavioural skills development.
A joyful graduation celebration was held for them this month.
The BSD office is in central Mossel Bay and it has a satellite office in Great Brak. Pieter Zaayman and Maria Harding are the directors of BSD Consulting. Zaayman is based at the Mossel Bay office and Harding in Great Brak.
Zaayman said proudly: "All our 11 students passed. We are the only accredited training facility for home-based care in Mossel Bay."
He noted that it was a nine-month course the carers did. There are also six-month and 12-month courses.
After nine months, the carers can work independently.
After a six-month course they may only be assistants. With the nine-month course, six months' theory is completed and three months' practical work is done at a frail care facility.
