MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Two groups of line dancers in Mossel Bay raised a whopping R44 676.70 for a senior citizens' home in town by taking part in a five-hour line dancing enduro event and bringing in donations.
And most of the feisty line dancers are senior citizens themselves.
Enduro
The Mossel Bay Retirement and Lifestyle Village Enduro took place on Friday, 5 July. Mandela Day is on 18 July, when people are encouraged to spend 67 minutes serving others.
Well, these women have certainly set a high standard for Mandela Day efforts.
It was a "true show of community spirit", according to organiser Lynne Marais, of the Mossel Bay Lifestyle Village (MLV) Line Dancing Group. The retirement and lifestyle village is in Dana Bay.

A second group of line dancers joined the fundraising effort.
The ACVV Onse Rus Seebries home for the aged will benefit from the funds raised.
"The extraordinary event brought joy, energy and community spirit to the forefront," Lynne said.
The MLV dancers were joined by nine other line dancers.
'Deep dedication'
Lynne noted: "This heart-warming event showed the residents’ deep dedication to their community. The air was charged with anticipation as residents, family and friends gathered to cheer on the dancers.
"The sense of camaraderie was palpable."
She said: "The ladies danced their hearts out, enduring sore feet, but brimming with joy and gratitude. The outpouring of support from the community was overwhelming, with many contributing to make a tangible difference in the lives of those at the home.
Memories
"The memories of this extraordinary day will linger in our hearts for years."
She said the MLV Line Dancing Group’s Enduro event in Dana Bay showed the incredible accomplishments possible when individuals united for a worthy purpose.
