MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Following reports of illegal sand mining on the existing alternative emergency exit in Dana Bay, repair work was done on 19 July.
The Mossel Bay Municipality’s Department of Infrastructure added building rubble and gravel to several places on the route in order repair the surface and make the route more accessible, where necessary.
The route leads from Paradise Coast and continues behind the Correctional Youth Centre until it ends in Spekboom Street.
The route is not intended for general use and is locked by gate to keep traffic out. This gate will only be opened in case of an emergency.
The repair work, which is only preventative, forms part of regular updates of contingency plans and does not replace the establishment of the formal emergency exit route joining the road to Herbertsdale.
The Mossel Bay Municipality request the community to report any illegal activities pertaining to the alternative emergency route to the Department of Community Safety on 044 606 5000.
