MOSSEL BAY NEWS - As part of regular scheduled actions between Mossel Bay Municipality and the SAPS, a joint operation consisting of members of the Mossel Bay Municipality Electrical Services and Law Enforcement Departments, as well members of the SAPS Public Order Policing Unit and KwaNonqaba SAPS was executed on Tuesday, 22 March for the removal of illegal electrical connections.
A total of 10 municipal vehicles were deployed, supported by two specialized vehicles of the Public Order Policing Unit.
The operation was performed in the informal settlements near Dube Street and Mzola Street, Asla, Thembelihle Street, KwaNonqaba, and the Rhythm City Informal settlement near Maqabanqa Street, KwaNonqaba.
An estimated total of 275 illegal connections were cut and removed, with the recovered copper conductor filling the load bin of a 4 ton municipal truck.
Consumers are reminded not to make themselves guilty of using these illegal connections, as it presents a danger to all the residents in the area.
The conductors are often uninsulated and pose an electrocution risk to any person or animal that might come into contact with the illegal installations. Mossel Bay Municipality will continue with the regular operations to remove these connections.
