MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Community in Blue initiative was successfully launched in the KwaNonqaba policing precinct on Friday evening, 31 January.
The patrols, the first for the year, took place in Herbertsdale and in KwaNonqaba, with the Community in Blue members wearing brand new uniforms.
The patrols were led by the two KwaNonqaba police sector commanders and coordinators of Community in Blue, Warrant Officer Matthew Tomela and Sergeant Norman Cupido.
KwaNonqaba Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp said the Community in Blue differs from neighbourhood watches. The Community in Blue members patrol different areas across the
KwaNonqaba policing precinct and are not bound to a neighbourhood.
They are not allowed to make arrests or conduct any searches, but they are the eyes and ears of the police, Kapp noted.
