MOSSEL BAY NEWS - D'Almeida Public Library hosted a successful holiday programme from 24 to 28 June in conjunction with a number of roleplayers.
Various activities with children were presented by the participants, which included the Mossel Bay Correctional Services, the Department of Social Development, the SPCA, Mossel Bay Fire and Disaster Management Services, the Da Gamaskop police, Mossel Bay Health Services, community development workers, All Saints and Guiding Stars brigade bands and the Mossel Bay's Got Talent Winners of 2019.
On day one, 24 June, the Guiding Stars and All Saints brigade bands encouraged more children to be part of the holiday programme by marching with representatives of the various roleplayers through the streets of D'Almeida.
The Correctional Services Department in Mossel Bay provided an information session on social ills such as drug abuse, peer pressure and gangs.
The programme ended with indoor and outdoor games.
On day two on 25 June, the Mossel Bay Fire and Disaster Management Services provided an information session on fire safety, emphasising that firefighters are community helpers.
On 26 June, day three, the children received an educational session on mouth hygiene by an oral hygienist. A session on how substance abuse affects the brain was provided by a social worker and an item on preventing cruelty to animals, illustrated through a puppet show, was provided by the SPCA.
On day four, on 27 June, Jonathan Jansen from the Da Gamaskop Police Station discussed all aspects of human trafficking, and also told the children they should stay out of trouble to stay out of jail.
The Mossel Bay's Got Talent winners ended the holiday programme with a bang on 28 June by entertaining the children with song and dance. Children also had the opportunity to show their talent in a competition, in which winners were chosen.

The children were taught how to brush their teeth properly by an oral hygienist.
Oral hygienist Nuraan Leeman gave all the children toothbrushes.
