MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The NSRI and other emergency services including, SA Police Services, Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue Services and WC Government Health EMS ambulance and EMS rescue squad, responded to reports of a drowning in progress at 17:32 on Saturday, 29 January at the Gouritz River, near Gouritzmond.
The search for a 40 year old man, allegedly from Asla Park, Mossel Bay started.
According to information, he disappeared under the water while swimming.
Despite an extensive search, including the use of the NSRI sea rescue craft, the body of the missing man could not be recovered yesterday.
A police diving unit are continuing in an ongoing search.
The NSRI also responded to reports of a drowning in progress at the Klein Brak River earlier yesterday at 14:55 where eye witnesses reported seeing a person floating lifeless in the river.
Mossel Bay Fire and Rescue services, WC Government Health EMS ambulance and EMS rescue squad and By Grace ambulance services also responded.
The man was located where he collapsed unconscious on the river bank. He was resuscitated and treated for non-fatal drowning symptoms and he has made a full recovery.
