LITTLE BRAK RIVER NEWS - The Little Brak River estuary breaching committee, chaired by the Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, convened on 20 July.
The committee included members from a range of institutions Mossel Bay Municipality, Garden Route District Municipality, CapeNature, Department of Agriculture, Department of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning, Department of Forestry, Fisheries and Environment, as well as the chairperson of the Little Brak River Estuary Advisory Forum.
The committee, following a review of historical and present information, by consensus concluded that the breaching of the estuary is not supported at this stage.
“We acknowledge that there are challenges regarding high water levels around properties and some inundation of an access road. The committee is monitoring the situation closely and will meet to discuss new information on a regular basis.
The committee reconvenes on Wednesday, 27th July to re-assess the situation.
