MOSSELBAAI NUUS - The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Cape Town has sent out radio broadcast messages to locate a sailing vessel that has left Cape Town on Friday, 12 August for Mossel Bay.
The vessel, not deemed seaworthy, was detained in Cape Town harbour by the MRCC.
Most of the equipment on the vessel was not working, with inadequate lifesaving devices and no radio communication.
The two cold fronts experienced add to concerns.
According to Danny Jenni, from the MRCC, the owner bought the vessel in Saldanha Bay and ignored all instructions to not leave the Cape Town harbour.
The sailing time from Cape Town to Mossel Bay for such a vessel is normally three to five days.
The yacht, with the name Panacea on the side, has a white hull and a white deck. Pan Pan broadcasts have been sent out to air traffic controllers, NSRI stations and other sailing vessels up to Gqeberha to be on the lookout for the small yacht. Please contact the MRCC on 021 938 3300 regarding any sighting or information on the whereabouts of the vessel.
