MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Ask any biker and they will tell you that club meetings are something not to be missed.
This is not only due to an agenda that needs to be discussed, but for the sheer delight taken in the fellowship with like-minded souls sharing a similar passion.
Last week, members of MAC's Motorcycle Club's local chapter decided, come hell or high water, to host their meeting. This, however, took place in strict adherence to the national lockdown regulations.
The chapter has 10 members in Mossel Bay. Weekly meetings take place on Wednesday and take up to two hours, during which events, outreaches and other strategic planning is done.
During lockdown, chapter members as far as Saudi Arabia have been making use of electronic devices to enjoy the privilege of sharing a few laughs.
In order to make the experience just a tad more real, Arthur Reyneke, who lives in a townhouse complex on the Hartenbos River, said goodbye to his wife, Michelle, announcing that he was off to the meeting.
He then hopped on to his motorcycle, sped off down the driveway, made a U-turn back home and took a seat on the porch to attend the meeting.

Jacques Mostert, another member, told the Mossel Bay Advertiser this week, that during meetings, members are expected to still wear their formal club attire. Mostert lost his right leg in a serious motorcycle accident in November last year, but remains a committed member of MAC's brotherhood
The meeting was hosted online and afterwards the "brothers" shared their photographs, unlike the ones normally taken at their meetings, showing a group of tough guys arm in arm, but seated solitarily in front of their electronic devices.
On being asked how the MAC's members are handling lockdown, Mostert says that not being able to ride is terrible. "It is not so much being out on your bike, but riding with others that is missed. There is such camaraderie when we ride together. Virtual meetings for now are the closest that we will get to the real thing."
