MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Veteran television actress Vicky Kente was in Mossel Bay on the weekend of Mother's Day, 6 to 8 May, and spoke at two events.
She has speaking engagements all over the country, for which she usually charges a fee, but she spoke for free in Mossel Bay.
Vicky is Virginia in Getroud met Rugby, she has starred in 7de Laan and she was in the original cast of Egoli.
She is also an independent producer and communications consultant. She spoke on the topic, Contentment, at the Miss Mature pageant at the ACVV Kenani Service Centre for the aged on 6 May.
Vicky encouraged the senior citizens to "keep living in hope and love".
She noted: "As I am from the old school, I still believe in respect for our elders and also not to keep them waiting; respect for their time.
"But these days the youngsters are different. You should not be moved by them. God, who has kept you alive until this Mother's Day, will provide and keep you content.
"So wake up every day with joy in your heart, as it is a blessing to grow old. Your caregivers should treat you with respect and love you. But you should also love them and speak to them with respect. God will take care of the rest."
At a breakfast to honour single moms on Saturday, 7 May, organised by The Myrtle Tree NPO, which "provides a shade for single mothers", Vicky spoke on forgiveness.
She is one of the NPO directors, because of her status as a single mom and passion to help single moms and because she can broaden the NPOs influence outside the borders of Mossel Bay. Vicky is based in Gauteng.
Forgiveness is to "surrender thoughts of revenge and move forward with personal, positive power intact", she said.
Progress
"I had to learn the hard way that without forgiveness there is no progress in your life.
"I had to learn to forgive myself first so that I could move on."
Vicky also said she had blamed God for everything that went wrong in her life.
"If you forgive you will find courage, gratitude and compassion.
"I also had to forgive my forefathers for whatever transgressions they committed that were affecting me, my siblings and our children - erfsondes."
Addressing the single moms at the breakfast, Vicky said: "Mother, it is not your fault that you lost your child, it is not your fault that your father or your mother died young and also not your fault that things did not work out at your job and in your family. Stop blaming yourself and ask God for courage to just acknowledge that these things happened, but were outside your control."
Vicky listed the benefits of forgiveness:
- Inner peace
- Freedom from negativity
- Contentment
- Healed heart
"So let us forgive every day and get the freedom of soul and heart that we need for our lives. There are many things that could keep us holding on to the past, but rather forgive and be free."
