According to Mossel Bay’s Fire and Disaster Management chief Joe Johnston, three teams of firefighters - a total of 40 firefighters - are still fighting to contain the fire on the northern slopes of the mountain.
Chief Johnston thanked Mossel Bay residents for their generous support of the firefighting teams. “The support has been heartening; we thank everyone who has so generously donated food and drinks, among others, while the teams worked on this fire.”
At least 4 000 hectares of vegetation were destroyed in the fire that has been raging since Friday.
