Update Video
MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - In July and August last year, barking seals at the harbour were the talk of the town.
Residents who live above the harbour, even as far as the suburb of Linkside, heard the seals barking at night or before sunrise.
Residents wrote letters to the Mossel Bay Advertiser about the seals and an article was published in the Advertiser.
Some thought the sound was a cow lowing and that someone had a cow in their yard. Another person thought the sound was someone blowing a wind instrument.
Last year Justin Human, the vessel manager at the company, Afro Fishing, based at the harbour, sent Mossel Bay Advertiser photographs of the seals and a video of them swimming.
He was the one who told the Advertiser the culprits who made the noise and woke people up were large seals. "They can be seen at Quay One just before sunrise, but mostly between the Vincent Jetty and the company, Seavuna. They wait for fish offcuts that might fall into the water," he told the Advertiser last year.
It was his wish to capture a video of the seals barking.
Well, last week, more than a year later, his patience and determination reaped a reward. He captured one of the loudmouths on video and he sent the video to the Advertiser.
