MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay, along with the rest of the world, is celebrating Autism Awareness Month in April. The United Nations declared 2 April World Autism Awareness Day. 

Blue is recognised worldwide as the colour for autism awareness and it has become customary to light up important landmarks in blue. Locally, the St Blaize caves have been dressed in blue light to create awareness and acceptance of autism.

The local awareness campaign has been spearheaded by the Education and Training Hub for Autism Needs. Among various noteworthy initiatives to create better understanding of autism, one of the most delightful elements in the campaign is BLU, an autism friendly mascot who has been popping up around Mossel Bay. 

BLU has been out to the Langeberg Mall and made other appearances this week in Mossel Bay. He also, to the delight of the learners, paid a visit to Centre for Exceptional Children.

BLU at the Centre for Exceptional Children with friends from ETHAN, ZJ Hulpsentrum, challenging  them Light Up Blue for autism awareness and acceptance.

Anyone can support autism awareness in April by wearing blue, a blue ribbon, changing the light at your braai area or stoep to blue, or by wrapping blue fabric around a tree of pillar at your home of business.
