MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The case of three men accused of kidnapping a girl (16) in Mossel Bay, has been postponed again.
On Monday, 17 March, the suspects - aged 30, 38 and 48 - appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court, where a decision on bail was expected to be made.
The bail application has yet to be concluded. The case has been postponed to Thursday, 10 April. The men have appeared in court a number of times since their arrest in December 2024.
The bail application was postponed several times due to one of the accused requesting a seSotho interpreter, but a seSotho interpreter was not available.
Eventually, the accused agreed for the case to continue in isiXhosa.
The suspects have remained in custody since their arrest. On 24 December, the girl was reported missing from a residence in JCC Camp in Mossel Bay by her aunt at about 23:00.
A vehicle, which was heading to Cape Town, was traced by officers attached to the Overberg Flying Squad, Overberg Task Team and Caledon Police on the N2.
The men were arrested on 25 December at the entrance to Caledon, a town in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. The girl was reunited with her family that day.
The suspects made their first court appearance on 27 December.
