MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The repairs to the large papier-mâché cameroceras at the Bartolomeu Dias Museum are almost completed.
Art educator, Estelle McIlrath, who led the team that built the Cameroceras about eight years ago, is leading the repairs, which are being done by her and volunteers.
Prehistoric
The model of the prehistoric sea creature became damaged during the recent upgrading at the museum.
The museum underwent changes to make it more fire safe.
A number of tourists who have visited the museum over the last month or so have been delighted to be able to get their hands dirty, even for five minutes, to do their bit during the papier-mâché process.
Take part
They were invited to take part, Estelle says.
They dipped newspaper in glue and added it to the large sea creature. It has been a case of "all hands on deck". McIlrath hopes to finish the task this week.Estelle McIlrath with her creation.
