MOSSEL BAY NEWS - On 14 September, Mossel Bay Provincial Traffic officers received information regarding a vehicle suspected of transporting abalone.
In a joint effort by the police flying squad and provincial traffic officers, the vehicle was spotted at Dana Bay, near the N2.
The traffic officials, Senior Inspector Danie Jansen van Rensburg and Inspector Wolhuter managed to stop the vehicle, which was travelling in the direction of Cape Town.
On further inspection, the abalone was found wrapped in a blue plastic bag, inside a box in the back of the vehicle.
Two suspects were arrested for the possession and transportation of abalone without a permit.
The abalone weighed 20.64kg and a total of 326 units with a street value of more than R165 000 were found.
