MOSSEL BAY NEWS - There was a robbery at Prepaid24 in Sioux Street, Voorbaai, in Mossel Bay this morning, 22 August.
The company is a service provider through which one can purchase electricity vouchers and cellphone airtime, among others, online.
One of the Prepaid24 CEOs, Ben Lindeque, said the robbery took place at 06:50. "There were four robbers. Three came into the building and one stayed outside. All of the three who came into the building had knives.
"Two of them attempted to stab the staff but nobody was stabbed or injured."
Lindeque said the robbers took three laptops.
"The police were on the scene very soon after that. There was an amazing response from the police. I can't say enough about them and their forensic people," Lindeque said in praise of the good service of the police.
"The captain was here 15 minutes after the robbery happened. The police have been brilliant."
When Lindeque spoke to Mossel Bay Advertiser at 11:50 today, he said that the police had "debriefed the four staff members" and added: "The staff have been speaking to a counsellor since 11:00."
Lindeque said the counselling of the four staff - two women and two men - who were present when the robbery took place, "had all been arranged by the police".
He said: "I am really grateful for that." Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp confirmed the details of the robbery and said Da Gamaskop Police Station detectives were investigating a case of business robbery. At 12:15 he noted that police were still fine-combing the premises for clues. Kapp said the investigating officer is Warrant Officer Marizanne du Plessis.
