MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Garden Route SPCA (GRSPCA) Mossel Bay arranged for free rabies vaccinations at its premises, 18 Bill Jeffery Street, for World Rabies Day on Friday, 27 September.
The official World Rabies Day was on Saturday, 28 September. GRSPCA Mossel Bay branch manager Elize Goosen said the drive went well and about 80 dogs were vaccinated.
The dogs were from the greater Mossel Bay area, including Little Brak River and Dana Bay. Goosen said the state vet from the Western Cape Department of Agriculture vaccinated the dogs and that staff from Life Bay View Private Hospital were also present as September is Pharmacy Month.
The theme for this year's Pharmacy Month was Let's Talk About Vaccines and so the staff from the hospital spoke to people about the importance of vaccines.
Goosen said the GRSPCA Mossel Bay also did dip baths for all the dogs after they had received the vaccinations, to prevent fleas and ticks.
She said the SPCA gave general educational talks to those who brought their dogs in about the correct way to keep dogs - not to chain them up and how to treat them with care.
