NATIONAL NEWS - An upcoming art competition, which will greatly benefit emerging young artists in the community, is about to be launched from the Rust-en-Vrede Gallery in Durbanville.
The gallery has recently initiated the Junior Portrait Award, and the competition is open to all high school learners countrywide aged 16 to 18.
Entry is absolutely free!
"Our main aim is to identify promising young artists who will then be given an opportunity to work with professional artists and have the possibility of their work being showcased in an art gallery," said the gallery's Kelisha Persotham.
How to enter
For all participants, please ensure you thoroughly review the complete rules and regulations provided here before submitting your entry. Entry into the competition is entirely free, with only one submission allowed per student.
Remember, the portrait you create must be of someone you personally know; no celebrities are permitted.
Please adhere to the A5 to A3 size limit and utilise good quality art paper, stretched canvas, or canvas board for your submission.
As for 2D drawing mediums, options include oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, charcoal, graphite, pencil, pen, ink, chalk pastels, oil pastels, markers, and color pencils.
Prizes:
• 1st Prize: Social Media for Artists Online Course plus two hours social media consultation session
• 2nd Prize: Social Media for Artists Online Course plus one hour social media consultation
• 3rd Prize: Social Media for Artists Online Course and a Pencafe art hamper.
