“Dit was 'n voorreg en besondere ervaring toe ek, vergesel deur lede van die Burgemeesterskomitee onlangs besoek afgelê het by die die enorme reservoir van gewapende beton wat op die plaas Vaale Valley 219 opgerig word.
“Die area tussen Hartenbos en Groot-Brakrivier bied besondere ontwikkelingsgeleenthede en, met ou Mossselbaaiers wat soms hul kommer oor toekomstige watersekerheid lug weens die rasse skrede daarvan, is ver gevorder met die voltooiing van nuwe 7Ml-reservoir, pompstasie en pypleiding. 'n Serwituut van 365 1684 hektaar is geregistreer op 'n gedeelte van die plaas Vaale Valley.
“Bouwerk, wat in Januarie 2021 begin het teen 'n koste van R18,8 miljoen, sal na verwagting teen November 2021 voltooi word. Dié projek is trots Mosselbaai en is deur Urhwebo E-Transand onderneem onder toesig van V3-konsultante-ingenieurs, beide plaaslike ondernemings, met plaaslike inwoners wat by die werkskeppingsgeleenthede kon baat.
Hartenbos
As the greater Hartenbos area developed quite rapidly in the past few years, the need for sustainable water supply and adequate water pressure was identified in the Mossel Bay Water master plan study.
The ‘Vaale Valley Reservoir’ project involves the construction of a new Concrete Water Retaining Reservoir for potable use for the greater Hartenbos area, including Outeniquasbosch, Monte Christo, Hartland, and surrounding developments.
The project, funded by Mossel Bay Municipality through a financial loan, is a multi-year project spread over the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 financial years with an estimated project completion cost of R15miljion.
Construction will likely be completed by year-end 2021.
During the 2020/2021 financial year, some of the following work included:
• 5000 cubic meters of Bulk earth excavation,
• 1333 square meters of formwork was used,
• 84 200 kg of high-tensile steel reinforcement have been fixed,
• 645 cubic meters of 35Mpa concrete with waterproofing admixture was placed,
• Associated Stainless-Steel pipe and fitting for In and Outlet pipes have been fixed to the reservoir.

KwaNonqaba Water Reticulation upgraded
This project involves the systematic upgrading of the existing water reticulation network in KwaNonqaba with several installations completed:
• 2 880m of 110 mm diameter PVC pipe
• 690m of 75 mm diameter PVC pipe
• Various valves and fire hydrants, and
• A connection between Gentswana Street and Boland Park, which included the installation of the pressure reduction valve at Boland Park.
Tarka Sewer Lines Installed
Tarka is een van die oudste areas in Mosselbaai en die bestaande rioolinfrastruktuur is vervang met nuwe pype wat gelyktydig die omvang van die rioolpype verhoog het.
Hierdie meerjarige projek het uit die volgende bestaa:
• PVC pype van 730 m van 160 mm in deursnee, gelê volgens tradisionele slootmetode
• PVC -pype met 'n deursnee van 200 mm, gelê volgens die tradisionele slootmetode
• 73 meter HDPE-pype met 'n deursnee van 160 mm vervang deur pypkrakingsmetode
• 80 meter HDPE -pype van 250 mm in deursnee, vervang deur pypkrakingsmetode, en
• 40 x riool mangate is gebou.
Watersekerheid sal veral sedert die uitmergelende droogte in 2010/11 vir inwoners 'n prioriteit wees en ek is veral beïndruk met deur die waterbestuursoplossings van die direktoraat.
Water Management Solutions
• 421 existing mechanical type water meters were replaced with smart water meters
• Three water meter chambers were constructed in Diaz Beach with installed flow and pressure logging equipment.
• Four Pressure Reducing Valve installations followed in Extension 26, Extension 13, Asla Park, and KwaNonqaba.
A new Pressure Reducing Valve controller was installed at the existing Luthuli Park Pressure Reducing Valve installation.

Midbrak Main Sewer Network (Phase 4)
The multi-year Midbrak Main Sewer Network, funded through an external loan consisted in part of the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical and electrical equipment for a sewage pump station.
Despite the delay from the sole supplier in supplying the pumps, the project was completed in 2018.
Inwoners in Hartenbos en omstreke sal veral die opgradering van die watersuiweringsaanleg interessant vind.
Upgrading of the inlet works (regional wastewater treatment works)
The inlet works have not been upgraded since the treatment works were constructed in 1984. The Regional WWTW currently receives an average of 8.2 Ml/d in the off-peak season and 12.2 Ml/d in the holiday peak season. The flow is treated by two activated sludge plants, which have enough biological capacity to treat the holiday flows.
This project was funded in part by the Municipal Infrastructure Grant, with municipal funding making up the shortfall.
