According to the Chief Whip of the ANC Caucus in the Mossel Bay Town Council, Councillor Stanford Mbandezi, the residents of predominantly the Khayelitsha area in KwaNonqaba are unhappy with the condition of the houses that were apparently built by the previous KwaNonqaba municipality.
"The people insist that the houses, all of which are cracked or showing structural damage, should be demolished and rebuilt. We also want the municipality to prioritise the delivery of houses to the elderly. Every new housing project should include houses for the old people," Cllr Mbandesi told the Mossel Bay Advertiser.
The marchers organised amid a heavy presence of law enforcement officers who escorted the group through town.
"We expect the mayor to personally address us and receive the memorandum of grievances," Cllr Mbandezi said.
