Update
SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - While the fire at Gouritsmond was extinguished overnight, a new fire was reported at Droëvlakte in the Stilbaai area and firefighters of the Eden District Municipality and Hessequa Fire Services on their way now to the affected area.
The fire that raged at Gouritsmond has been extinguished. Firefighting teams of the Hessequa and Eden District Municipalities and Working on Fire worked through the night to contain and extinguish the fire that at one stage threatened infrastructure in the area. Firefighters are continuing to monitor the area.
Meanwhile, the fire that has been raging for days in the Oudtshoorn area in the Swartberg mountain is still burning with some areas, such as the North-East line proving difficult to contain as there is no access. On the Southern line a successful backburn was put in from east to west by early afternoon. The fire is regarded as being mopped up, Eden District Municipality spokesperson Herman Pieters said.
Patrolling and monitoring will continue with the assistance of Cape Nature.
