GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The regional court sent a strong message to criminals when a man convicted of attempted murder was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment.
Regional court magistrate FN Makamandela ordered that three years of the ten-year sentence she gave Sivuyile Nkebe be suspended for five years.
Nkebe was accused of attempting to murder the victim, a Mr Soni, on 25 August last year.
Soni alleged that he was trying to turn into Scholtz Street from Bantom Street when his way was blocked by taxis.
After waiting for some time, he asked the taxi driver to remove his vehicle. An altercation ensued between several men and Nkebe.
A taxi driver assaulted Soni and repeatedly stabbed him with a knife. Another taxi driver apparently also drove into Soni's vehicle. Soni finally managed to escape.
Magistrate Makamandela also ordered that Nkebe be refused the right to own a firearm in future.
The case was successfully investigated by police officer, Sgt Bob Kekaza.
