MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEOS - A Pretoria family were enjoying their last day on holiday in Mossel Bay when they made an exciting discovery of a hole in a rock, through which you have a perfect view of the St Blaize lighthouse.
It was Tuesday, 11 July, that Charl and Daleen Barnard and their daugher, Amoré, were on the beach at the tidal pool at the Point.
Daleen said: "It was the first time in days that the wind was not blowing and that we could enjoy the outdoors. Amoré spent four hours playing on the beach."
Daleen said it was wonderful seeing her child, carefree and happy, using her imagination and creating a make-believe kitchen with the rocks, shells and water.
She pointed out that children spend much of their time on their cellphones nowadays.
Then the hole in the rock was spotted.
It is directly in front of Delfino's restaurant. One has to lie on the sand to look through the hole and see the lighthouse.
Hettie Ferreira of Germiston saw the family on the beach and chatted to them. She was visiting her sister, Elsabe Stals, who lives at the Point.
Elsabe said she had never known about the hole in the rock and suggested the Barnards contact Mossel Bay Advertiser to tell of their discovery.
Co-incidentally Hettie and the Barnards were booked on the same flight to Johannesburg the next day, Wednesday, 12 July. They were delighted to have made friends with one another and had lunch together after they had chatted on the beach.
They were looking forward to seeing one another when they flew back to Gauteng.
