MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Department of Social Development (DSD) is investigating a charity in Mossel Bay, about which a number of allegations and complaints have been made.
The Mossel Bay Advertiser published an article, titled Public concern about mother and child care facility, regarding the allegations about the charity on page 5 of last week's edition, 3 June.
Four women handed affidavits they had written about the charity to the ACVV Social Services in town and the ACVV also received queries from people who had been asked by the charity for donations. One of the women also complained to another respected NPO in Mossel Bay.
Included in the allegations are claims that children at the premises are engaging in sexual activity with one another, that according to municipal by-laws the premises is not suitable to house women and children and that the owner of the charity is committing fraud and malpractice.
The premises consists of a house on the street and what used to be offices behind the house.
In an email to the Advertiser the DSD confirmed it was investigating the allegations against the charity.
The ACVV Social Services confirmed it had been contacted by the DSD and it had asked for a meeting with the DSD to discuss the allegations against the charity.
On behalf of the DSD, Mossel Bay social work manager Koliswa Jobela noted in her email to the Advertiser: "You will be informed in due course so that the concerns of the public are allayed."
